On Monday, September 9, 2024, Hospice Mississauga will host the annual signature golf tournament at Granite Ridge Golf Club. Golfers will experience the challenging and scenic Cobalt and Ruby Courses as we take over both 18- hole courses, a BBQ lunch, mouth-watering awards dinner with prize presentations, silent and live auctions; a perfect way to end a beautiful day on the links.

Funds from Golf Fore Hospice will support our Help Us Understand Grief (HUUG) Program, this program offers age-appropriate support and education for children and youth guided by our HUUG Counsellors. HUUG helps young individuals understand death, dying, and grief, providing specialized counseling and coping strategies for their end of life and bereavement journey. Unfortunately, HUUG is not funded by the government, so we must raise $190,000 annually to sustain this vital program and provide it free to Mississauga families.

 

A FEW FACTS

• When a family member dies, children react differently from adults. Bereaved children and teenagers will need ongoing attention, reassurance, and support. Children often re-experience their grief through the lens of every age and stage.

• 1 in 14 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the time they turn 18. (Children and Youth Grief Network)

• Children die too. Did you know that children, even young ones, are usually aware that they are dying but seldom have the opportunity to talk about it.
